Magnetic North is a journey for the heart, mind and soul. It started, like any voyage, with the first step, which was the goal of making one song (that ended up being called Stage Set), and the first aspect I composed for this intention was its chorus: simple, elegant, and well frank.
From there, tune by tune, and with great support from diverse communities of friends, fans, and family, we continued past a single into making a handful of songs, and which, due to interest levels and the speed of creation, later snowballed into the desire for a full album, an LP, something artistically worthy of the subject matters of cosmology, spirit, and geodesy.
My deepest gratitude goes out to SselemaN, for his contribution of the vast majority of sounds created for this project, and especially for his endless hours of work mixing and mastering each song, some many times over, until they sounded the way we wanted them to.
I also want to thank Malin for her unexpected and excellent composition and performance of a cover of Mt. Meru, an original song I wrote, but which we opted not to include on the final LP due to a sample we were uninterested in clearing. In my estimation her version ennobles the album, and creates a sense of both gentility and peace to its conclusion.
